Troubleshooting - Lexacom will not update

Problem

The Lexacom software has advised that there is an update ready to be aplied to your installation; when the Lexacom application is restarted the update fails to install with the error 'AutoUpdate Exited Prematurely: Please see the log files for more information'.

Cause

There can be many reasons for an update failing to install. The main causes are normally due to folder permissions to the currently logged in computer user or Anti-Virus software blocking access to certain essential applications.

Resolution

You or your computer administrator will need to check that permissions to the following folders have been correctly set to ALLOW MODIFY  or FULL CONTROL for one or more of the following security groups.

  • Domain Users (anyone with a domain account)
  • Authenticated Users (anyone logged into the computer)
  • Everyone (everyone regardless of validation)
  • Other Relevant User Group

Windows XP

  • C:\Documents and settings\All Users\Application Data\Aprobrium
  • C:\Program Files\Aprobrium
  • C:\Program Files\Common Files

Windows Vista / Windows 7 32bit

  • C:\ProgramData\Aprobrium
  • C:\Program Files\Aprobrium
  • C:\Program Files\Common Files

Windows Vista / Windows 7 64bit

  • C:\ProgramData\Aprobrium
  • C:\Program Files (x86)\Aprobrium
  • C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files

Granting the minimum of MODIFY to your security groups, to the above folders will mean the update can apply as normal.

After checking the above, please ensure that your Anti-Virus is not configured to block access to an application called "unrar.exe". This application is used to extract the update from the compressed files they are delivered in, so that they can be installed into your program folders. Lexacom does not have access to your ant-virus solution and there are many more in use than can be explained via a knowledgebase article.

If you suspect that your anti-virus software is causing a problem, please contact your IT provider directly and ask them to reconfigure the anti-virus to allow access to all Lexacom essential aplications.

There is also a tool available that checks the above and reports back to the user, any problems it encounters. Download the application from the link below and run on each machine you suspect of failing to udate.

AutoUpdateDiagnosticTool
